Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey trailer and thoughts.

Cosmos, that classic story of us, and our universe hosted and narrated by Carl Sagan is getting a sequel.  Some of us, actually many of us have watched the original.  It is estimated the series has been watched by an estimated 500 million people in over 60 countries.  Of all the people who to champion a sequel to bring new data into the mix, I least expected Seth MacFarlane.   You know the animator/director how made his fame largely from toilet humor in the show Family Guy.  Before I go in depth talking about how excited I am to see this sequel come to life, let’s watch the trailer.

I love how they pay tribute to Carl Sagan, I am also pleased with the choice of Neil Tyson as the host/narrator.  All throughout the trailer there are tributes to the original series, I loved the original and have great respect for Carl Sagan who conceptualized the original.  I’ve personally even paid tribute to him in games I’ve played.  If you are ever playing Star Trek: Online and run across a ship named after him, it’s a pretty safe bet that it is me.  We’re talking about a continuation of the vision of a man who designed the messages sent into space, in the event an alien civilization ever encountered them, on Pioneer 10 and 11, along with both voyager probes.  Continuing his legacy by expanding on his work in Cosmos, updating it for a current generation with all the technological and scientific discoveries we’ve accomplished since 1980 when the original mini-series was released is only fitting.
