Community Season 6 Gets Premiere Date!

After fans have mourned the canceling of Community after season 5 and the long limbo before the announcement that Yahoo picked it up for a sixth season, Community season 6 has a premiere date. On March 17th, just two months from now, the first two episodes will be available on Yahoo and one episode after that every week for a total of 13 episodes. From this hilarious video, we can see there will be a couple new faces in the show. Dan Harmon, creator of the show had this to say about two of them:

Paget’s character is something of a machine. She’s a very nuanced character . . . on the surface, her two dimensional first act of a John Hughes movie role, is that she’s a problem solver. She doesn’t like things that don’t make sense. She doesn’t abide nonsense. She is here to help. She’s a very effective person, and the likes of which Greendale’s never really seen, and she’s been specifically hired to wrangle the problems at Greendale and fix them. And Keith’s character on the surface is a computer programmer in clothes he wasted a lot of time on virtual reality technology in the ’90s, and he sacrificed a lot of his personal life at the sake of his career, and now he’s starting over.

During a Q&A panel with TCA (Television Critics Association), Dan Harmon made the statement that he hopes to never stop making the show.

I’m definitely not writing [this season] as if it’s the end . . . Only when people stop watching would I ever stop wanting to make the product.”

The show has seen the departure of a number of characters. Chevy Chase was the first to go, due to issues with Dan Harmon’s creative vision. Donald Glover left soon after and Yvette Nicole Brown decided not to return for season 6. Dan Harmon takes these losses with huge strides and an inspiration to create not just a TV show, but a setting where characters can grow:

One of the things that we’ve learned how to do is make sure that cast fluctuations don’t destroy the show immediately. I pray to God every night — I light a black candle and also pray to the Devil at the same time, in case I’m missing something — that Donald Glover will come down my chimney and come back to the show. But also, Paget is amazing, and Keith David is amazing, and anybody that ever wants to leave the show should leave, and I actually believe that there’s some version of the show where… This is like a platform. It’s like a place where characters go through struggles.

I don’t know about you guys, but I know where I’ll be on March 17th. On Yahoo. Watching Community. So, at home, probably.
