The Flash: Fallout

That. Was. Awesome! In an episode mostly dedicated to the Firestorm, this week’s The Flash managed to sneak in quite a few surprises before the hour ended. Namely, Iris is slowly but surely becoming more clued into the whole meta-human thing, Barry and Detective West are moving closer to determining what happened the night that Barry’s mom was murdered and some of the mysteriousness surrounding Dr. Harrison Wells is finally put to rest. Whew! Trust me, if you blink you just might miss something…pun intended! Spoiler alert!

The Origin of Firestorm

In a plot continuation from last week, the two men that make up Firestorm—Ronnie Raymond and Dr. Stein—were finally separated for the first time since the particle accelerator explosion merged them into one being. The only problem was the separation was only temporary as with every passing minute of their being apart their connection grew stronger; particularly when one of them was in danger. This proved advantageous for the twosome when they finally realized that they could merge on purpose and aid Barry during a standoff with the military who were seeking to use Firestorm as a weapon.

By the end of the episode, Ronnie Raymond and Dr. Stein left Central City for Pittsburgh—just like in the DC comics—to seek help in permanently disabling their connection. And though Firestorm left town, it was eluded to that he would indeed be back. I know I’m looking forward to seeing another Firestorm/Flash team up.

Dr. Wells is the Reverse-Flash

I knew it! I called it back when The Flash first started and I was right: Dr. Harrison Wells is in fact the Reverse-Flash. Despite all the plot twists and confusing diversions to throw us off, including the fact that Detective West’s partner’s name is Thawne—the name of the original Reverse-Flash from the Silver Age—Dr. Wells is the man in yellow. Not that it won’t be interesting to watch unfold, after all there is still a lot more to look forward to and I, for one, can’t wait to see how the writers pull it all off. For starters, I need to see more about the apparent alliance between Dr. Wells/Reverse-Flash and Gorrilla Grodd.

One of my favorite moments from last nights’ episode of The Flash was seeing notorious Flash villain Gorrilla Grodd. It was just icing on the cake to see him tear General Eiling limb from limb before disappearing into the sewer with the General’s limp body. If I’m not mistaken, this was also the first time that we’ve actually seen the full unobstructed image of Gorrilla Grodd, and it was worth the wait. Seriously, how amazing are the special effects on this show? Things are getting out of control on The Flash and I like it….ALOT!

The Flash Seeks to Alter the Past

Barry continues to learn more about the night of his mother’s murder. This week, Barry’s father figure Detective West, informs him that his future self/The Flash was at the scene of the crime when his mother was murdered in his childhood home. Interestingly enough though, the other blood sample from the crime scene was not from Dr. Wells, who we now know is the Reverse-Flash. Still, the question remains: then how is it possible that Dr. Wells’ blood was not at the crime scene when obviously the Reverse-Flash and The Flash were the only ones in the house? Or, were they? Who knows, but Barry is determined to find out what happened that night and I am willing to bet that the explanation won’t be anything that we can see coming.

The Flash returns to CW on March 17 at 8:00pm EST.
