Comic Con isn’t even here yet and we’re already getting updates about the upcoming season of The Flash directly from the cast. Among the reveals, Killer Frost, and potentially Vibe, is coming to Central City.
In a recent interview for DC All Access with host Tiffany Smith, the cast of The Flash shared some early spoilers about the upcoming sophomore season of the CW hit. As to be expected, there will be character growth—particularly for Barry Allen—and some continuation of the epic archrival storyline between The Flash and the Reverse-Flash. But perhaps the biggest news of all, so far anyway, is that Caitlin Snow will be suiting up as Killer Frost, according actress Danielle Panabaker. Actor Carlos Valdes, who plays Francisco “Cisco” Ramon, however, was a little more tight-lipped about potentially becoming Vibe next season. Although, technically we kind of already got our clue about his character upgrade at the end of last season when Caitlin designed those cool looking protective eye wear that looked suspiciously like Vibe’s shades from the comics.
Who are Killer Frost and Vibe?
In a nutshell, they are the complete opposite of their alter egos, Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon. But to get more specific, Killer Frost is a super villain/meta human with ice-based powers, with an origin that links her to Arrow. She also shares a tumultuous past with Firestorm, who just so happens to be made up of Caitlin’s new husband Ronnie Raymond and Dr. Martin Stein. That should be fun to watch play out, right? Anyone care for some fire and ice—get it?
Vibe, on the other hand, is a superhero/meta human with the ability to produce powerful vibrations/shock waves. His origin story includes a past affiliation with gangs just prior to reforming the new Justice League after Aquaman disbanded the original group. Here’s hoping that CW’s incarnation of Vibe doesn’t start breakdancing before he uses his powers, because that’s exactly what he would have done back in the 80s when he first appeared in the comics. What This Could Mean
With Caitlin Snow becoming Killer Frost on The Flash, it could only mean one thing for her marriage: big time trouble. The newly married couple only just got tied the knot in the season 1 finale of The Flash, and now they’ll face the biggest challenge of their relationship, as if Ronnie becoming half of Firestorm wasn’t enough. Will their relationship survive, or will they kill each other?
Then there is the question about what will become of the funny and lovable Cisco Ramon if he becomes Vibe. Will he become a sidekick of sorts to Barry Allen/The Flash, or will he become a hero in his own right? If the latter happens, then who’s going to run STAR labs? Everybody can’t be a hero…just saying. I guess we’ll all find out what happens when the new season of The Flash returns this fall on the CW.
