Movies Becoming Serial Series

There are many films that started as books and then turned into films but the newer generations don’t have time for books; they like to watch rather than read and mainstream media understands that with a passion. Instead of educating them through books, it’s all about movies going serial; moving into Prime Time television series; and we though Halloween was over! Here is a list of movies that are turning into a weekly series.

1. Bachelor Party: Who would have thought Tom Hanks could ever have such dirty humor! Well, this movie is definitely full of taboo especially when it comes to a certain food item but with the success of television series such as “How I Met Your Mother” and the like, ABC has decided that they want in on that train and their ticket is this 1984 movie. Instead of just focusing on one guy, it will be about three couples; one is about to get married, one is just starting to fall in love, and the other are divorced. Of course it will be light-hearted filled with comedy and definitely PG rated. Viewers can expect this to come out sometime in 2015.

2. Big: Yet another awesome Tom Hanks film being turned into a television series. This 1988 movie was about a boy wishing to be “bigger” so he could ride the roller coaster rides at an amusement park but when he awoke the next morning, he was an adult and he had to deal with everything that comes with being an adult. 20th Century Fox is making this like “Everyone hates Chris” and showing the world what it’s like to not only be a child but an adult as well. Which means that the television series is only loosely based on the movie and it will be hitting the tube sometime in 2015.

3. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs: A book turned movie and now turned television series. The film was about the adventure of a young inventor named Flint Lockwood and the television series will basically be like Flint’s prequel to the film; it will show his teenage years in high school with 26 episodes running 22 minutes apiece. This will air in 2015.

4. The Devil’s Advocate: This movie, a more modern and dark twist to “It’s a Wonderful Life” is about this southern attorney who gets a chance to live and work in New York City with his wife. His very religious mother is totally against it since she had a one night stand with the Devil and her son, is technically the anti-Christ yet he has enough goodness in him to ensure that his father does not win. This movie is being turned into a television series where a law firm is being presumably run by the Devil. There is currently no date as to when this will become a television series.

5. Ghost: This film brought tears to many people’s eyes; a husband shot in a dark alley while trying to save his wife and having to make sure that she will be okay; especially after he found out that his death was no random act of violence. Very little is known about how this will become a television series, back in 2013 they’ve been trying to decide how to start the story and there is no estimated time of arrival for this idea to come out onto television — yet.

6. Hitch: This 2005 film was about a dating advice expert giving advice to people and finding himself fall for someone; he thinks he knows it all but when it happens to him, he’s completely taken aback that it’s such a mystery to him. The television show will most likely follow the film format closely because Will Smith is involved with the project and there’s no date as to when this will come to fruition.

7. The Illusionist: This very dark film about an illusionist was full of deceit and trickery; trying to get famous with smoke and mirrors as well as trying to catch the eye of a socialite. Instead of Vienna, the city will be New York City and it will be extremely loosely based on the film. This is still in early development so a set date has not been made.

8. In Good Company: This film was about a young corporate guy falling for his employee’s beautiful daughter and both trying to deal with the situation. From the sounds of it, it will follow the film format closely and no date has been set as of yet.

9. In the Heat of the Night: This was a 1967 film turned 1980s television series on a small network television channel. It’s now being revamped and going to be under MGM and Showtime. Hopefully, it will be as great as the 1980s television series; but with high definition!

10. Limitless: The film was about an out of work struggling writer getting his hands on a “miracle” drug that opened up his intellect. He finds out that it’s not as amazing as it seems and the chaos then ensues. The television series format is being discussed currently however a pilot is in the works and hopefully it will be as good as the film. An ETA hasn’t been spoken about yet.

There are many other films that are becoming television shows such as:

  • Marley & Me
  • Minority Report
  • Monster in Law
  • The Mortal Instruments
  • Problem Child
  • Real Genius
  • Resident Evil
  • Rush Hour
  • Shutter Island
  • Scream
  • School of Rock
  • Shooter
  • The Truman Show
  • Twelve Monkeys
  • Uncle Buck
  • Underworld
  • Westworld

Some of these will most likely make people say “Eh, what?” or say “Never heard of it.” but in the end, these will most likely become the future television programs on at night. Since many of these series are somewhat paying homage to these older films, there is only one important question that has not been answered (or asked): Will any of these be filmed before a live studio audience? Because that’s how they made television shows back in the day!
