A lot of the players are starting to hit the level cap of 20 in Destiny, “How can that be? I’ve seen players above 20.” Once you hit the cap you will start to see ‘Light’ as a modifier on your gear. This is the key to life after the cap, once you accrue so much light you will begin to exceed that pitiful cap.
The ‘easiest’ ways to acquire light is through legendary gear, finding legendary engrams however is about as rare as seeing Barack Obama dancing around the white house yelling “Who’s a pretty president, I am.” very unlikely but possible. When you do finally get a legendary drop, you will have to hope and pray it is actually a piece of legendary gear, it will likely decrypt into a useless rare cape that you already have! I’ve contacted The Cryptarch to ask about the situation but so far, no reply.
Vendors are your best friends. Every vendor in the tower sells some form of legendary gear which can be bought generally with crucible marks and the right reputation. Lord Shaxx is a crucible vendor and for a lot of crucible marks and the minimum of rank 2. You can begin to get your legendaries increasing your light by 18 for each piece you can obtain, keep an eye out for the vendor.
For the non PVP enthusiasts, the vanguards also sell a good amount of gear. This is the easiest approach in my opinion. Vanguard reputation is very easily obtained by completing missions, bounties and strikes not to mention it’s probably the most fun way.
Once you manage to get some legendaries, it’s important to know that upgrading them usually adds more light. Upgrading them usually requires a few different items and some glimmer. Relic irons are needed for my upgrades and for that I found a very useful farming guide by RifleGaming
To summarise, the more light you have the higher level you are. I’d personally recommend entering the strike playlist (you can get a lot of engram drops from these) and completing every vanguard bounty under the sun to boost that reputation and fill up your digital purse with as many marks as humanly possible.
Important Note: Always be on the look out for the Agent Of The Nine vendor. He will appear on weekends next to the Crucible vendors and sells exotic items for a small price of every ‘strange coin’ you own. You can get three strange coins by grouping up and tackling the weekly heroic strike mission, they can also be found in rare engrams.
Good luck Guardians, You’ll need it.
