Last Gen Consoles, Not Dead Yet

When a new generation of console comes out it is always a trying time for those who have not or cannot upgrade to the new systems yet. Many gamers feel abandoned since pickings start to be slim, or they feel they are just getting dumbed-down versions of Next-gen games. However this is also when some great games are released that would never see the light of day otherwise. Here you see a brief description of upcoming last gen games that you have probably never heard of but should pay attention to.

Digimon All-Star Rumble

Digimon

PS3 and XBOX 360 11-11-2014

Digimon All-Star Rumble brings 12 of someone’s all-time favorite characters from the Digimon universe and a Mario All Star type of fighting game in 10 arenas. For those who do not who Digimon are, think of Pokemon that usually look cooler but never had a game that captured player’s hearts like the Pokemon series. For those who remember the story it continues here and everything left off with peace and love. Well that’s boring, so the digimon decide to start a digi-fight club. As Digi-Durden you battle you way up so you can digi-volve and prove that you are most powerful of all the digimon. The game play is designed to be pick up and play simple controls suitable for all ages.

The Last Guardian

PS3 12-31-2014

The Last Guardian is the third game in the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus series. A young boy and gigantic creature form a bond as they attempt to make their way in the world. Like Old Yeller, but with a bigger dog. If this game is anything is like its predecessors then it will be a beautiful solid release and incredibly boring. Before you start with the hate mail, yes, I know everyone on the planet liked ICO and Shadow of the Colossus except me. I still say you are all wrong.

 The Dark Eye: Demonicon

PS3 and XBOX 360 12-31-2014

The Dark Eye (TDE) world is the German version of Dungeons and Dragons. This is the first German RPG in the series designed specifically for consoles. The game is based on TDE world with using moments of its history as references throughout. The strategic third person action takes place in a grim world where men are in constant fear of demons. The story is of a brother and sister trying to survive in this world of “cruelty and depravity”. This place sounds really depressing; at least D&D had unicorns. The game promises a rich story, and combat as a fighter or dark magic user. The Vision Engine is being used to produce the 3D world and the action. Decision making with consequences, it all sound good. We will see if they can deliver come December. The game will either be epic or meh, but it cannot be worse than Two-Worlds II.

Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters

PS3 02-24-2014

An anime styled visual novel from Aksys Games, Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters is the newest visual novel strategy game. You play as a transfer student and work for a magazine company that is a front for a strange ghost hunting organization. Craziness ensues and you will have to make it through 13 episodes playable in both Story and Battle modes. You will encounter ghosts and have to investigate their past in order to exorcise them. Much like a choose-your-own-adventure book the path you choose affects which paths you can take.

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late

PS3 03-31-2015

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late (UNIBEL) will be the latest 2D fighting game from the makers of theBlazBlue and Guilty Gear series. Which most likely means it will be a Japan-a-weird style with solid game play. There are 16 characters each with a unique anime style visuals and combat abilities. The game being designed to be pick-up and play but still accessible for advanced fighting game enthusiast. Developing masterminds at French Bread are also helping build the world of UNIBEL with a dark story and visuals to please the eye. Story, arcade, versus, and training modes will give players a chance to take on the AI as well as other players from around the world.

We know not all of these will be winners and some may not make it to the market which will be a shame.  The Last Guardian and The Dark Eye are both games that players have been waiting for years to play. Digimon was not a bad idea and has the potential for a truly fun game. Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters and  Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late have names that are entirely too long…., but come from experienced small developers who know how to make good games. If you are still in last gen you can still rejoice because there are options out there that those next gen suckers are gonna miss out on.
