League of Legends Announces World Championship

On Friday, October 4th, 2013, the League of Legends World Championship will be hosted at the well-known Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Starting on September 16th, the top fourteen teams from around the world will come to Southern California to fight for the right to compete in the World Championship. The winner takes home the Summoner’s Cup and the $1 Million cash prize, 50% of the $2 Million prize-pool dedicated specifically to the Championship Tournament.

Tens of thousands of fans will be present, with millions more watching online from around the world as their favorite team fights for a spot in the final game. The World Playoffs will be made up of fourteen different teams from the five regions around the world and one international wild-card team. The represented regions are North America, Korea, China, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Each region will hold its own qualifying event to determine which teams to advance to the World Playoffs. Once at the playoffs, the teams will have to battle through the beginning group stage, and two different single elimination rounds to determine the Championship game line-up.
