Nintendo Reveals The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3DS Remake Coming Spring 2015

Fans have clamored for a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for a very long time, and Nintendo has finally answered. Majora’s Mask is currently slated for a Spring 2015 release; fans have waited years for this announcement, what’s a few more months?

For those who have never had the joy of playing this game, it is a dark and personal journey through a land called Termina—a parallel world to the Hyrule from Ocarina of Time. In this world, an ancient and dangerous mask has been stolen by the Skull Kid who proceeds to use the mask’s powers to wreak havoc on the people of Termina. This includes sending the moon on a collision course with Clock Town, the game’s main town. Masks are used by the townspeople as part of their Carnival of Time. Masks are also one of the primary mechanics of the game. Link can don masks that give him special powers. One mask will heighten his sense of smell, one mask can allow link to run faster, and there are several masks that actually transform Link’s body. The Deku, Zora, Goron, and Fierce Deity masks can transform Link into a Deku Scrub, a Zora, a Goron, and an over-powered God-Warrior respectively.

Link has only three days to stop the moon from crashing into the land, a very daunting task, but thanks to the Ocarina of time, Link can reset time to the first day of his arrival whenever he wants. This game is very centered on time; certain events can only happen at certain times and every person has their own schedules to attend to. From the postman who runs his daily routine, to the local ranch being overrun by aliens, Link will interact with all kinds of people who are just trying to live their lives in peace.

This game is shorter than most Zeldas, and is often criticized for being mostly sidequests, however that is the point of the whole game. Developing personal relationships with the people of Termina is the most important aspect. You learn to care about everyone in the world. While not necessary to complete all the sidequests, it’s highly recommended as you will miss out on not only emotional stories, but one of the best items in the whole game.
