For years people who are blind or have low vision needed to memorize video game menus and squint to see the small text on poorly contrasted screens. Physically disabled gamers have had to hope that each individual game had control mapping options. Deaf gamers had to hunt for the caption settings.

Now, however, Sony is the first in changing the landscape for console players with disabilities.

by releasing the next update, Sony will open up many doors for console gamers with disabilities. The PS4 will be the first video game console to have accessibility features as complex as the ones presented in this next update

The PS4 update, currently called 2.50 will have an accessibility menu, which provides a vast array of accessibility options for a number of disabilities including visual impairment, hearing impairment, and physical impairment.

It is unclear exactly when the update will launch but rumors by everything from trolls to blogs speculate that the firmware update will launch “in late May or early April”

The accessibility menu, shown in a screenshot leaked by a Twitter user named Is A Parrot, shows a total of ten accessibility options.
