Still, I Think He’s Rather Dreamy – Aladdin and Jasmine Coming to Infinity 2.0

It is no question that Disney Infinity 1.0 exceeded expectations of Disney Interactive. Beyond that, according to this story at Venture Beat, the inaugural title in what seems to be a yearly franchise is even outselling Skylanders, the grandfather of the toys-to-life genre. Arguably, this is because Disney Infinity has a cast that is more recognizable by more people. For example, my 4-year old daughter could not get into Skylanders but as soon as she saw the characters in Disney she was hooked. The robust toy box feature has also been a huge success as the YouTube channel has issued challenges each week for people to create custom toy boxes and then promoted them through their show.

For me, though, the biggest issue was a lack of characters that I really loved. While there are some fantastic characters in 1.0, I was not a huge fan of The Incredibles, Lone Ranger, or Monster’s University films, or characters. I know many are, but I grew up at a different time with different characters. When Disney first announced Infinity 1.0 they had asked what characters people were excited to see. Aladdin was my number one pick and I hoped beyond hope that I would see him appear in 1.0. That was not the case. Today, my hopes, dreams, whatever, have been brought into a whole new world:

The characters are toy box only characters, which may be a bit of a disappointment to some. It seems this iteration of the title will include much more to do within the toy box though. I couldn’t be more happy to see Aladdin and Jasmine are coming at some point, though no release date has been released currently. Better yet, these will be 2.0 characters which means they will have the robust skill tree that has been discussed some in the past. It also should be noted that these trailers are including a bit more of the traditional Disney humor which gives me hope for the game reaching that level of humor when it launches. Finally, it appears that Aladdin has access to a skill, or something, that uses the lamp. We likely wont hear Robin Williams voicing the Genie if it even shows up – but expect some solid writing if he does.

So, what characters are you most looking forward to, or hoping, in the Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes? Stay tuned to The Noobist as we will be covering the title in greater detail as it gets closer to release on Sept. 23rd.
