The Taken King Takes E3!

Bungie has delivered on its promises to wow its fans at this years E3. In various interviews with the likes of IGN, new details for the substantial expansion have been divulged.

In The Taken King, Guardians will fight back against the Hive god, Oryx. In the previous DLC expansion, The Dark Below, we managed to slay his son. In search for revenge, Oryx has infiltrated our galaxy in his flying fortress, the Dreadnaught. Using otherworldly power, Oryx has captured enemies of all races and corrupted them. These new “taken” enemies march forward, looking to extinguish the light of the traveler.

NEW TOYS

Players can enjoy a wealth of new weapons and armor sets. In the latest Bungie Vidoc, there are even allusions to new weapon types. Sony users will enjoy exclusive weapons yet again, while Xbox players will now be able to acquire Hawkmoon and Monte Carlo, two of Destiny’s most formidable weapons. The Dark Below brought overpowered swords, and House of Wolves brought us the dreaded Scorch Cannon, situational weapons that players could use to devastate their enemies. Only time will tell what supercharged weapon The Taken King will bring.

NEW CLASSES

Many players had already noticed that each individual class was missing a third elemental subclass. No one however, could have imagined how incredibly badass the next subclasses would be. Realizing that they are simply not strong enough to defeat Oryx, the Vanguard have ordered Guardians to rekindle powers lost to them, and regain their past glory. With these new subclasses, players might just stand a chance against this Hive god. Titans will be able to take up a flaming hammer imbued with solar energy, as the charge across the battlefield in a mash up of Thor and Amon Ra with the Sunbreaker class. With the Nightstalker class, Hunters will take up a bow infused with dark matter energy, binding their enemies together and leaving them sitting targets for their companions to destroy. Warlock Stormcallers can summon the arc energy of lightning and rain it down upon their enemies.

COMBAT EVOLVED (see what I did there? It’s a nod to… nevermind)18849530851_21679e2944_b

PVP will also change drastically in this gargantuan expansion. Two new game modes will be added, the first being Mayhem, and the second being Rift. In Mayhem, guardian’s super abilities and grenades charge even faster. With these souped up abilities, players can expect all out madness packed with elemental explosions and super moves. One hugely requested addition to the Destiny universe is capture the flag. Many wish to recapture the fun and excitement of running your flag across Blood Gulch in Halo, and Bungie has delivered. Rift pits two teams against one another, each vying for control of the spark. The spark must be picked up by a team member, and upon becoming the “spark runner” the team must push towards their enemies rift. The spark runner must then place the spark into the rift, like a ball in a basket. Guardians will receive style points for acrobatically “slam dunking” the spark, in true showmans form.
