A Very Nerdy Thanksgiving

Pre-Thanksgiving Jitters

The time has come in my life, where I have to host Thanksgiving dinner for my family this year. Besides the anxiety and nightmares that I’ve already been experiencing (seriously I want it to be perfect, no matter how unattainable that is), I started thinking about how I could make my Thanksgiving special. Now that Thanksgiving is only a week away, my planning and prep have gone into overdrive. I’ve compiled my wish list of all of the nerdy things I would want for my Thanksgiving dinner.

Los Pollos Hermanos Apron

First, an apron is key to keeping yourself clean while cooking, so I can’t think of anything better than this Los Pollos Hermanos apron. Breaking Bad is one of my favorite TV shows ever, and if I could incorporate that into Thanksgiving, it would be pretty epic. Plus, I would hope that this apron would stand up to cooking chicken, so it should be great for Thanksgiving. R2-D2 Measuring Cup Set

I’m more of a baker than a cook, and in baking, measurements are super important. It would be amazing to have this R2-D2 set because not only is it nerdy, but it’s space saving! You can buy other stackable measuring cups, but they definitely aren’t this cool. I found this set on ThinkGeek, which has some amazing nerdy things: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/11be/

R2-D2 Kitchen Timer

I’m not that great of a cook, so I need a timer to make sure I don’t burn things, like the turkey on Thanksgiving. This R2-D2 timer would be perfect to match the measuring cup set. It also would, hopefully, help me to not ruin everything I try to cook. It’s available here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/1f9b/#tabs

ef2d_star_trek_oven_mitt

Star Trek Spock Oven Mitt

Of course when using an oven the whole day, a good oven mitt is necessary. Even though it looks a little cartoonish, it’s still pretty awesome for the Star Trek fans out there. Plus, it’s functional and would be perfect for getting the pumpkin pie and turkey out of the oven. You can get it here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ef2d/

Space Invaders Cutting Board

After you get the turkey out of the oven, you have to carve it. I can admit, I’m not the biggest Space Invaders fan, but this cutting board is pretty dope. It’s hand-made out from walnut and maple, so while it’s pricey, it’s good quality. Even though it’s just a cutting board, it could be a centerpiece. You can find this piece of art here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/a7cf/

Wonder Woman and Superman Salt and Pepper Shakers

Seasoning is subjective because people have their own taste preferences, so you need salt and pepper shakes handy for your guests. There are so many kitschy salt and pepper shakers out there, but I’m partial to this one featuring Wonder Woman and Superman. It would be unique for Thanksgiving, because it’s definitely not your grandma’s salt and pepper shakers. It’s available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Westland-Giftware-Magnetic-4-25-Inch-Superman/dp/B00BNAZV0U/ref=sr_1_37?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1416512548&sr=1-37&keywords=dc+comics

Marvel Coasters

These glass Marvel coasters are bright and colorful, and a great way to represent Marvel at your Thanksgiving. Besides, they are way more classy than those gross, cork coasters that are probably sitting around everyone’s houses, collecting dust. The images are also perfect for throwback Thursday, since Thanksgiving is on a Thursday. You can get these on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Vandor-26185-Marvel-Coaster-Multicolor/dp/B00FC7J3OK/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1416512222&sr=1-2&keywords=marvel

Doctor Who Plates

Okay, so Doctor Who isn’t American, but these melamine plates are pretty sweet and I would use them any time of the year. They’re not too big, so if you’re trying to not eat too much this Thanksgiving, these would be perfect. Who wouldn’t want to include the TARDIS in a Thanksgiving meal? You can get them here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/1e16/

f3cb_adventure_time_face_pint_glass_set

Adventure Time Pint Glasses

I realize that this wouldn’t match the Doctor Who plates, but I love Adventure Time. Like a lot. Like so much that one of my friends who has a 13 year-old son made fun of me for watching the same cartoons as her kid. Obviously I don’t care because my love for Adventure Time is so strong that I would use these glasses every single day, and not just for beer. In my biased opinion, Adventure Time is the best cartoon going right now, and if I could figure out how to have an Adventure Time Thanksgiving, I would do it. The closest I could probably get would be trying to make an apple pie as good as Tree Trunks, but since that seems like an impossible task, I’ll have to settle for glassware. You can these here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f3cb/

hspp_aroma_revolution_flavoring_kit

Aroma Revolution Flavoring and Pairing Kit

I found this product browsing ThinkGeek, and I think it would be perfect to trick my guests into thinking that what I cooked was really delicious. This product uses scent to create a different experience while eating. According to the product description, “Trick your mind and forever change the way you perceive flavors, as you add carefully planned aromas to your dining experience.” This idea is interesting, and while I doubt it would cover up the taste and smell of anything that’s burnt, it includes scents like basil, butter, olive oil, truffle, and black pepper, so I would hope that it would at least make people believe that I was an amazing cook. Get it here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/hspp/
