Fandom Awakened, A Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review

A long time ago or approximately a little under a week ago, a man saw The Force Awakens three times and left the theater feeling excited for the future of the franchise every time. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens took over the country last Thursday and is showing no signs of slowing down. Smashing records and introducing new and old fans alike to the future of a galaxy far, far away.

Kudos to the Cast

The latest Star Wars film isn’t original by a long shot as it borrows heavily from the three original trilogy films, but that doesn’t detract from the overall viewing. It’s all about the characters, young and old. Harrison Ford delivers his best performance in over a decade as Han Solo, making you feel like he hasn’t missed a beat since Return of the Jedi. John Boyega turns in a classic performance as Finn with great humor and excellent comedic timing while still showing a vulnerable side of a man trying to find his place in life. Oscar Isaac doesn’t have as much screen time as the rest of the main cast, but he comes off as extremely likable and one hell of a pilot. Adam Driver plays the tortured soul Kylo Ren. I won’t give much away, but his character is one of great intrigue and his journey to the dark side is an interesting tale we don’t know much about. Let us not forget Daisy Ridley. The star of the film, Daisy as Rey is able to win you over with one of the best performances in a Star Wars film to date. She’s a funny, determined, independent young woman that has lived on her own for a long time. Mechanically inclined and able to aptly defend herself, Daisy Ridley wins you over from the start and as the film concludes you realize that a star is being born within an instant classic.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t have to be and that is okay as neither are any of the other films. Witty dialogue that the actors bring to life show us that Star Wars isn’t just about the action. The action is excellent and is greatly enhanced by the physical effects along with the CGI blending in beautifully. The fighting is raw and brings back fond memories of the original trilogy when you finally witness the lightsaber duels. A great film that answered a few questions the audience had and left many unanswered while introducing a whole bunch more. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is a great introduction into the next stage of the saga from a galaxy far, far away.
