The Flash: Enter Zoom Recap & Review

Can we say speedster showdown? The latest episode of The Flash finally brought us a Flash meeting with the much hyped season two villain, Zoom, and it was well worth the wait. The Flash finally faces off with Zoom after using Linda Park to bait him out, Cisco vibes Wells, and more on The Flash: “Enter Zoom.” Spoiler alert.

The Bait

Linda

Last week on The Flash, Dr. Light was “defeated” and brought to the metahuman prison at S.T.A.R. labs, for safe keeping. This week, the Linda Park doppelganger from Earth-2 made her great escape. And though Team Flash was initially distracted with the whole whose-fault-is-it-that-she-escaped-in-the-first-place, they did manage to come up with a plan—thanks to Barry—to use Linda as bait to draw out the real threat, Zoom.

The plan was simple. Have Linda dress up in Dr. Light’s costume—which she abandoned when she went invisible and escaped the metahuman prison—and pretend to take out The Flash, which would was then supposed to draw out Zoom. At that point, Team Flash would then attempt to take him out. Naturally, no one had confidence in Linda’s ability to assume the role of her doppelganger so they gave her a mini practice session, just to help her get acclimated to using her new gloves that mimicked Dr. Light’s metahuman powers. Even with the practice session, the entire operation was an epic fail. And, of course, Zoom didn’t show on the day of the actual performance, I mean the supposed baited trap.

With their epic fail behind them, Team Flash disbanded and some resumed their personal lives…temporarily. After Iris and Linda enjoyed a little bonding time, thanks to Linda now knowing that Barry is the Flash, Linda was then confronted by Zoom. They should have known better than to play with fire, or in this case the speed force, as Zoom wasn’t too happy that she tried to bait him into a trap…such as it was. That’s why he abducted her and baited the Flash to the S.T.A.R. labs rooftop to exact some revenge on his speedster foe.

After saving Linda and urging her to safety, the Flash and Zoom faced off in what was arguably one of the best, if not the best dual of the season so far. The Flash tried to match his rival’s speed, first attempting to hit Zoom with a thunderbolt of lightning—thanks to the teachings of one Jay Garrick—and then by attempting a free fall fight using terminal velocity. Both attempts, unfortunately, were epic fails and by the end of the night the Flash was left in a coma. But not before Zoom decided to parade the nearly lifeless body of the Flash in front of the media at Central City Picture News and then the men in blue at the Central City Police Department, clearly bragging about his conquest and demonstrating his level of threat to Central City. It was only at his final stop, S.T.A.R. labs, where someone finally had the cojones to stop him—ok, scare him off…thank you, Cisco.

Also, on The Flash this week, we learned that Earth-2 Harrison Wells’ daughter’s name is Jessie Quick, which could possibly mean that he is Johnny Quick—a Flash contemporary of Jay Garrick; Barry and Patty seem to be doing well and heading towards coupledom—Iris who?; Cisco vibes Wells and learns that Zoom has Wells’ daughter held captive; and Jay Garrick is still MIA, but hopefully will come back around soon to help out Barry and Team Flash. Then, too, we got yet another confirmation that Earth-2 is really just a Bizarro world Earth-1, with the Arrow being called the Hood and Robert Queen assuming the archer vigilante role, while his son Oliver is the one who died on the Queen’s Gambit. And the choir sang awesome sauce!

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8:00pm EST on CW.
