Marvel’s Agent Carter: The Edge of Mystery Recap and Review

Things continue to not to go Agent Carter’s way this season. A trap went awry and ended up with with Anna Jarvis shot and Whitney Frost driving off with Dr. Wilkes in tow. Marvel’s Agent Carter takes us back to last season from Jarvis’s point of view while being on the phone with Peggy. The show jumps to present day, and a very distraught Jarvis who is sitting at his wife’s hospital bedside. Jarvis is cleaned up and still sitting by his wife’s bedside, making promises to her if she would only wake up. Conveniently she wakes up to hear all his promising and Jarvis is beyond happy. His happiness is short lived however, when the Doctor informs him that Anna can never have children due to complications. Jarvis surprisingly doesn’t tell Anna and you have to wonder if that will come back to bite him.

The Offer

Frost has Wilkes locked up and is studying him for observation. She is desperate to understand Wilkes and what he is going through and curious to whether or not he can hear the voice too. Obviously the zero matter has some dire consequences. Wilkes and Frost have very differing points of view on whether the zero matter is a gift or not. Frost tries to get Wilkes to accept the zero matter as a gift when they are interrupted by the gangster with Peggy’s message.

Carter and Sousa meet up at Stark mansion and come up with a pretty hair-brained scheme. The plan involves paying a visit to Whitney’s gangster friend. Sitting down to a nice Italian dinner Sousa and Carter use just a bit of blackmail to get the gangster to deliver a message to Whitney Frost.

An eye opener

Chief Thompson is in London with an old friend pretending to be pissed (drunk) so that he can lay his hands on some dirt to discredit Agent Carter. Going by the smile on his face, he found something. He then shows up at Stark mansion, which makes you wonder how much time has passed, just as Carter, Sousa and Jarvis make their way to the exchange. He gives Peggy the documents which are clearly forged, and has some some wise words for Chief Thompson as she leaves. Thompson is talking to Masters and it is clear that he is now having second thoughts. A little snooping on his part has him opening his eyes to what is really going on, leading to a confrontation with Masters.

The good guys pull a fast one on Frost and her crew and get Wilkes back, all while being shot at. The chase is on when apparently all of Frost’s talks to Wilkes got through to him, and he pulls a gun on Peggy and company. Threatening her life, forces Sousa to give up the location of the real rods, and now another chase is on. Sousa and Carter arrive at the SSR to find Thompson with no memory of what transpired with Masters, how he got into the lab, or what happened to the (now missing) rods. Fortunately, when Thompson was ease dropping on the phone, he wrote down the coordinates of where they were meeting.

Nuclear

Frost and her team of minions are at the place where it all started. The bombing test where zero matter was first discovered and Carter and company arrive just in time to see the bomb go off. A fissure of zero matter opens in the sky and Wilkes is miraculously pulled into it while Frost looks on despondent that she wasn’t chosen. Putting to use Stark’s design for a gamma weapon that their tech guy built, it surprisingly works and closed the portal. Wilkes is blasted out of the portal and the episode ends with Peggy and Jarvis being knocked out.
