Dark Matter: Episode 10 Review & Recap

Finally! Something we could sink our teeth into. The latest episode of Dark Matter was chock-full of suspense, and hilarious to boot. The Raza crew was forced into an alliance with Mekkei Combine—which ended up costing them the ship, Two showed us don’t touch her unless she wants you to, and more on “Episode 10” of Dark Matter. Spoiler alert.

MekaiCombine

Mekkei Combine to the rescue. Last week on Dark Matter, three Ferrous Corp. destroyers cornered the Raza in what looked like a potentially disastrous showdown. This week, we picked up right where that episode left off, and what happened wasn’t really that far from that assumption. But before Ferrous Corp. could annihilate the Raza crew with a missile, good old Mekkei Combine appeared out of thin air to save the day. Unfortunately for the Raza crew, Mekkei Combine had their own agenda, so they weren’t complete saints. No surprise there, right? After all, this is a show featuring “evil corporations.”

After being presented with what really seemed like a one-sided ultimatum, the Raza crew accepted Mekkei Combine’s offer to go steal some secret merchandise in an exchange for a supposed alliance with the Ferrous Corp rival. And, of course, things got much more complicated when the Raza crew showed up for the mission and were introduced to their partners in crime—literally. Turns out, the other crew of badasses was just as horrible, if not more, than Three (of all people) thought they were. Sure, they played nice initially to get the job done, but once that happened, they overthrew the Raza crew…and much worse for Two; more on that on in a minute.

OneandTwo

He had it coming. Two sure has a way with all the boys. Come on, I can’t be the only person to have noticed it. Besides the fact that she’s beautiful, her tough girl persona tends to garner a lot of attention (wanted or unwanted). So, it’s no surprise that two things would occur as a result: She has issues being in a relationship and guys constantly want to hook up with her. As if a fight with her paramour wasn’t enough this week, she was forced to put a “handsy” pursuer—the leader of the new team of badasses/mercenaries by the name of Wexler—in his rightful place. And from the looks of it, I don’t think she minded. She totally broke his arm and bruised his ribs, among other things. If you watched, you’ll know what I’m talking about. That played out just like a cautionary tale if I ever saw one.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, Two injuring Wexler created an unnecessary obstacle as Mr. Handsy was the designated “lock picker” of the group who was going to actually break into the secured vault to steal the intended merchandise. Enter Five; not that Six was particularly happy about that. The wunderkind saved the day, not once, but twice when she shocked the security guard/android protecting the vault from his unmerciful attack on team #2, and then again when she used the juiced up unconscious android to open the doors to the vault, finally giving them access to what they where there for. Too bad when everyone returned to the Raza, thanks to a sword-wielding Four coming in with the much-needed assist, the two groups’ bonding didn’t last long as the Raza crew then found themselves in the middle of a ship takeover. And once again, the Android was rendered unconscious; just when things were finally getting interesting for her character. Should have known from the very beginning it wasn’t going to end well, right?

Two

The cliffhanger. This week on Dark Matter, the cliffhanger revolved around our favorite boss lady: Two. Wexler, jilted and injured still, just had to find a way to take out his frustration over being denied by the hottest woman on the ship. So, naturally he decided to make her his hostage in an attempt to retrieve the code for the secret room, where the recently acquired stolen merchandise was locked away. The crazy part is that even when he got the code from a surprisingly easily scared Three, he still decided to release the air lock door where Two was held up during the standoff for information. And just like that, she was gone. Or is she? Come on, like they’re really going to kill of one of the most entertaining characters on Dark Matter. Yeah right. Let’s see how they get out of this one, folks.

Dark Matter airs Fridays at 10:00pm EST on Syfy.
