Community is the NBC turned YAHOO original TV show, starring; Joel McHale of E!’s “The Soup”, Donald Glover, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Chevy Chase, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong.
The show revolves around a large variety of characters, all of which have polar opposite traits; you have Jeff Winger, played by Joel McHale, an ex-lawyer, after his law firm discovered that his bachelor’s degree was falsified, was disbarred, forcing him to go to Greendale to obtain his legitimate degree.
Then there’s Annie Edison, played by Alison Brie, an adderall addicted valedictorian whose infatuation with members of the study group causes for comedic consequences, her willingness to succeed is what makes Annie a main fixture in the shows canvas of constant over the top themes, and outlandish episode plots, e.g. being inside a video game, rolling a dice causing 6 individually insane timelines, and multiple paintball assassin episodes.
The show is filled to the brim with pop culture references, breaking the fourth wall, and wacky plot ideas. The show’s creator, Dan Harmon, being a large D&D fan, has included a few Dungeons and Dragons episodes to make sure that the fabric of the show is forever changing, especially since it has gained both cult and critical acclamation over the 6 years it has been running.
Now, on the internet the show has progressed into new waves of fans, heralding the hashtag, #SixSeasonsAndAMovie. This directly comes from the show, as Abed Nadir (Danny Pudi), constantly refers to “good” TV shows only last for “Six seasons and a movie”, now with the sixth season just wrapped up it’s hard to figure out if the seventh season is going to happen or is there going to be a movie instead.
My overall review of the show is hugely positive any never really disappoints the viewer, it’s an uncommon field in where a TV show doesn’t at least cause some uproar or negativity, it’s a clear cut success and hopefully this article gets to at least one of you out there to pursue the show, and most importantly enjoy it for what it is, a masterpiece.
Needless to say, Community is an amazing show and is definitely going to go down as one of the all-time greats.
