Well, that was certainly interesting! Last night’s episode of Gotham managed to successfully tackle quite a few storylines to make for one of the more attention-grabbing episodes since the mid-season premiere back in January. Namely, Mooney gets exactly what she wants and more from Dr. Dulmacher, Bruce Wayne vows to look into Alfred’s stabbing and Bullock’s dark secret is essentially erased, which results in an unexpected promotion for Gordon on Gotham: Everyone Has a Cobblepot. Spoiler alert!
Be Careful What You Wish For…
In one of the slower moving plot lines on the show, Fish Mooney is working her way up the food chain at Dr. Dulmacher’s medical facility, where she herself was once in line to be a guinea pig for medical experimentation. That is, until she of course manipulated her way into a position of authority among her fellow captives. But now, things have changed for her, she has a new eye—after a self mutilating stunt for attention—and a spot on the management team, doing exactly what she did for Falcone. However, her long term plans were quickly thwarted once she learned that the medical facility is located on an isolated island with no possibility for escape. Her wish came true, but to what end? This brings us to another character that may soon be in over his head: Bruce Wayne.
Thankfully, Bruce was in the right place at the right time because Alfred wouldn’t have survived being stabbed by his former friend, Reg, otherwise. And while we do know that Reg was paid by the Board of Directors at Wayne Industries to assault Alfred, what we don’t know yet is why he so willingly participated. Perhaps, Reg and Alfred weren’t the good old mates from the British SAS that we were led to believe that they were during last week’s reminiscing. Either way, Bruce has made it his mission to investigate, which can only mean potential trouble for the young alter ego of Batman.
Bullock’s Cobblepot
Everyone has a Cobblepot! At least that’s what Detective Bullock thinks. And for many of the Gotham City Police Department, including Bullock, Commissioner Loeb not only knows exactly what those Cobblepots are, but uses them as leverage to keep everyone like Bullock in line. The only problem is, with a consummate do-gooder like Detective Gordon, there was no way that Gordon was going to fall in line; whether he has a Cobblepot of his own or not. And he does—remember the incident with Oswald at the pier; it’s just that Gordon is smarter.
After using Commissioner Loeb’s Cobblepot—which so happens is his daughter Miriam and the secret that she killed his wife—as leverage to get the files that incriminate Bullock, Gordon convinced Loeb to promote him to President of the GCPD instead of his original appointment, Arnold Flass. Is this a sign that the GCPD will begin to see a new day, or will Gordon end up being corrupted with more Cobblepots in the coming weeks? Also, how far into the dark side will Gordon have to go to repay the favor he owes the actual Cobblepot for access to Commissioner Loeb’s Cobblepot? Only time will tell.
Gotham airs Monday nights on FOX at 8:00pm EST.
