Most people know CD Projekt Red mostly because they’ve brought the Witcher series to the masses. People have enjoyed the fantasy based game, portraying a guy who is a hero and warrior beyond belief. Now the studio has told the world that since the Witcher series has ended, they are now expanding into the science fiction genre and blowing the dust off of a well known series; but it’s only really well known to the table top gamers. World, CD Project Red will be bringing Cyberpunk 2077 into the world in video game format.
The studio’s visual effects artist Jose Teixeria sat down with MCV and said that Cyberpunk 2077 will be much bigger and more complex than the Witcher series. “Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told MCV. “Far, far bigger. “We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.” Inspired by the underground cyberpunk genre; namely William Gibson and Bruce Sterling, gamers should expect a lot of cybernetics, AI, a big nightlife, and capitalism booming bigger and brighter than ever. Think of civilization in Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, The Fifth Element, Aeon Fluxx, Freejack and Total Recall mashed all into blender with Bladerunner.
Even though Cyberpunk 2077 and the Witcher series are in two completely different genres, the content will still be for mature audiences and unforgiving difficult levels that CD Project Red is well known for by their fans.
“The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us,” he says. “If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.”
Currently there is no release date for Cyberpunk 2077 however when it does arrive, society will hopefully be ready for it. Hopefully.
