Blizzard’s wildly popular Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft was made available for Android tablets on Tuesday. This is sure to add to the already impressive 20 million players on the PC, Mac, and iPad versions of the game.
The tablet version of the game boasts all the same features as the PC version of the game, including the recently released expansion Goblins & Gnomes. As always, players can unlock new cards through the Arena, gold earned in game, or with real world cash. Players can also purchase the single player Curse of Naxxramas Adventure.
As a way to celebrate the game’s Android release, and to help new players get started with the game, anyone who starts a game in any mode will receive Classic card pack for free, which is as good a reason as any for current players to grab the game on their tablet.
Blizzard has announced versions of the game to be released on Android and iOS phones, but has delayed their release until 2015, citing difficulty revamping the user interface for smaller screens. Blizzard had the following to say about the delays:
“It’s very important to us that the phone experience for Hearthstone is just as accessible as the tablet and PC versions. One of the biggest challenges with that is revamping the user interface so it feels intuitive and offers the same quality Hearthstone experience, but this time from the palm of your hand.
“Releasing Hearthstone on iPhone and Android phones is something we’re incredibly excited about, but ultimately we’d rather take the extra time to make Hearthstone’s user interface on the phone customized to feel great for the platform, rather than a port that doesn’t take in to account the limitations of a smaller screen.”
With the success of the game’s tablet versions I am sure that the phone releases will live up to expectations. Make sure to check out the Android tablet version of the game, and be on the lookout for the phone release next year.
