Mafia 3 Announced: New Protagonist Unveiled
In the wake of an epic Gamescon announcement, the official trailer for Mafia 3 (which you can check out below!) has been released and it reveals some new surprises. It appears that 2K Czech have taken a completely new direction with the new Mafia title, and introduced a darker and more brutal protagonist via Lincoln Clay, who will replace Vito Scaletta as Mafia’s leading man. The new game appears to be grittier and feels more real as it appears to build significant tension and drama through the story. Overall, Mafia 3 appears to be a brillant game and due to it’s accurate and faithful ’70’s reproduction, will be a different experience from generic open-world shooter games, as the world and the story is more immersive than ever before.
Mafia’s New Leading Man- Lincoln Clay
Enter Lincoln Clay, an orphan, a veteran and now a gangster. An orphan all his life, Lincoln Clay finds brotherhood and solace in the army. A lonely and broken man, Clay returns after the Vietnam War, having trouble adjusting to civilian life when he meets the black mob who offer him family. But before you can say “happy families”, the Italian mob raids their hotel, killing everyone inside and shooting Clay in the head leaving him for dead. But, Clay recovers and with the help of his three mob lieutenants (including Vito from Mafia 2) sets out on a bloodthirsty and brutal quest for revenge against the Italian Mob.
Setting- New Orleans 1968
A bustling and lively setting, Mafia 3 will take place in New Orleans in 1968. The city reeks with life, and from the gameplay demo of Mafia 3 (which, yes you can see below), we see that the city of New Orleans is lively and vibrant from dance music emanating from the buildings to a cop that is harassing an interracial couple. New Orleans is set to burst with interesting and colorful figures creating a living city, a feature that no game has truly implemented since Watch_Dogs. The new setting of New Orleans looks to be a perfect fit for the cutting edge next gen features, that Mafia 3 looks set to implement.
The Release
Mafia 3 looks set to be released for only next generation consoles; Xbox One , Ps4 and PC. Not much else is known but the game is expected to release late next year (2016) or early 2017.
