Back in February, Warner Brothers picked up the rights to make a Minecraft movie. Yesterday, the studio has announced that they will possibly be working with the director of “Night at the Museum”, Shawn Levy to lead the project.
Shawn Levy will be working with producers Roy Lee and Jill Messick to bring the game to the silver screen. Since technically Minecraft does not have a plot (other than making it to the End and killing the dragon), it’d be impossible to suggest how this adaptation will be handled.
With the success of Lego: The Movie, Warner Brothers are making this project and hoping that it will be just as successful or possibly more successful. There’s no releases date even mentioned for the Minecraft movie but more information will be released in the near future about it.
Die hard Minecrafters will either run to watch this movie or be wary about the mainstream movie world getting their hands on a game born from subculture and bolstered by the modding community.
