In a shocking revelation, Nintendo has announced new models for their 3DS lineup. They call it the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, and they are complete improvements over the older models.
First off, it has a second control stick on the right side. Remember the C-stick from the Nintendo Gamecube’s Controller? It’s back! This C-stick works much like the original, and the new Super Smash Bros. game will utilize it for super smashes.
The buttons on the right are also a shout-out to an older console’s controller. Remember the Super Nintendo? The buttons are the same color and in the same places. Nintendo has also added two extra shoulder buttons called the ZR and ZL buttons.
Because of the changes, the card slot for game cards has been moved to the bottom of the handheld. These new models no longer use SD cards for extra memory. Instead, they use Micro SD cards.
The changes don’t stop on the outside, however. The CPU has been upgraded, allowing for faster navigation and quicker download speeds. They even improved the 3D screen. Remember how, if you didn’t get your eye angle to the screen just right, the 3D would get blurry? Nintendo has claimed that you can now see smooth 3D from several angles. The handheld will use the gyro sensors and the camera to track the player’s face. Lastly, you can place the Nintendo Amiibo characters directly on the bottom screen and the system’s NFC reader will be activated.
The hit Wii game, Xenoblade Chronicles, has already been announced for only the New 3DS systems. This is a great surprise considering the rarity of the game.

The New Nintendo 3DS models have only been announced in Japan. They did not comment on when the rest of the world will get the console, only that we won’t see it in 2014.
