Preview: Pamela

At the 2015 Game Developers Conference in San  Francisco, a bevy of games have been announced, but some are true showstoppers.

Pamela, brought to us by NVYVE Studios, is a survival horror title inspired by both Mass Effect and Mirrors Edge. The beautiful title draws on the serene vistas of Mirrors Edge, while drawing upon the futuristic design of Mass Effect. Pamela continues an emerging trend in which upcoming horror games are ditching drab color palettes and bringing more color to our screens.

On this futuristic island colony, Eden, a disease causing rapid bone growth has run rampant. Your only goal is survival as the islands denizens morph into ghoulish creatures that seek your end. Your main weapon will also be your link to the world around you. Each new playthrough will spawn a randomly generated character with a bionic arm. As your adventure in Eden unfolds, new attachments can be found and customized. This bionic arm is also a communication device that allows players to interface with Pamela, and artificial intelligence construct that links every person inhabiting Eden.

Pamela doesn’t stop at simple inventory management, but requires you to manage your surroundings as well. Each person hooked into this bionic system acts almost like a server, and killing many of them will affect the system as a whole. Also, players will have to manage power as the games dynamic weather system affects the cities solar panels. Players will have to manage how much electricity the use, using only certain lights and objects that are crucial to their survival, or they can choose to barricade themselves and survive the long dark night.

Permadeath with also be an option open to players. If that level of play is not for you, a new character will be generated upon your death with the same progress as your slain character. Pamela is nowhere near a finished product, as it is planned for release in 2016. Gameplay and narrative elements may change but for now this game has caught the attention of many. For more details about this title visit its official page here.
