Dark Matter: Episode Two: Review & Recap

Some things are worth sticking around for…like the second episode of Dark Matter. The crew of mercenaries begins to deal with the aftermath of learning their true identities, their employer decides to take control of their failed mission, number four asks a very important question, and more on “Episode Two” of Dark Matter. Spoiler alert!

“Call me two”

TheCrewLast week on Dark Matter, we learned that the crew of The Raza is in fact a violent group of mercenaries sent on a mission to kill miners by a “corrupt corporation” named Ferrous. This week, the group begins to deal with the aftermath of learning that fateful information. Number one was probably the most reactionary. Like when he decided to go on a hero’s mission to save the same miners he was supposed to kill in repentance of his past doings, forcing the other crew members’ hand.

Obviously, that idea didn’t go over so well with the rest of the crew, particularly “boss lady” number two who was too busy keeping her own cool in spite of her own desires to disassociate herself from her past life as well. Too bad the “nameless” android didn’t know not to push that button. Portia Lin, or number two, was quick to correct the android when she called her by her real name, telling her “No computer file is gonna tell me who I am.” Right on, boss lady.

FCS Deliverance

OnMinerPlanet

So, what happens when a crew of untrustworthy amnesiac mercenaries fails to complete their mission? Their big bad employer—in this case Ferrous Corp—shows up on their ship, FCS Deliverance, to take care of things for themselves. In an interesting plot twist, the Destroyer’s commander offers Portia—I mean number two—some secret sweet bonus contingent upon her leaving the four members of her crew that took the weapons on the Marauder to the miners. Keep in mind that there’s good reason why number two is the leader of the crew, besides the fact that she is smart on her feet. A trait that ultimately gave the crew of The Raza, the miners and Ferrous Corp rivals Mikkei Combine the advantage by the end of the second episode.

The Cliffhanger

Number5Early on in “Episode Two” number five had a brief conversation with number two in which she asked the question “who stole their memories?” Unfortunately, at the time number five broached the subject, number two’s attention was diverted by the approaching Ferrous Corp ship. By the end of the episode, however, they were able to resume their conversation. But not until after number five spent some quality time in number four’s room and discovered a box that seemed to have triggered some memories.

Apparently, number five—the psychic wunderkind—can tap into the minds of others and recall their memories. Not knowing whose memories it was, she recalled someone purposefully planting a virus in the stasis core of the ship. Now that we know that their amnesia was caused on purpose, it’s just a matter of finding out why. And the plot thickens…

Dark Matter airs Friday nights on Syfy at 10:00pm EST.
