Marvel fans around the world have had their breath taken away recently. In the midst of anticipating a new movie from their favorite universe, there has been other exciting news coming out. Fans do not have to go scouring multiple sources though as the Noobist has compiled all of the need to know information in one location.
The first bit of news in this roundup is perhaps one of the most shocking coming out of the universe. Since the character Thor was introduced in 1962, the character has always been portrayed by a male. The idea of a male Thor is no more however, with Marvel announcing this week that the next incarnation of the famous character will in fact be female. This news was not exactly received smoothly, but Marvel is sticking to their guns. There is only one Thor in the universe, so it will be an intriguing storyline to see the transfer of power from male to female. For the time being the female Thor will appear in the new comics. However, since Marvel is constantly creating new and intriguing box office hits, it is not out of the question that the female Thor will eventually grace the big screen.
Fans of Thor were not the only ones dealt with a surprising change to their favorite character. Marvel also announced this week that the next Captain America will be African-American. It is not exactly a new character, but rather a transfer of power as Steve Rogers will turn his shield over to his partner Sam Wilson, better known as Falcon. For now this transfer of power is also only going to be seen in comic books that will begin to appear on the shelves in beginning in October. However, as with the new Thor, it would not surprise fans to see the new Captain America appear on the big screen sometime in the future.
Along with the news of character changes, fans are eagerly awaiting the latest of Marvel’s cinematic creativity, the Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie debuts on the big screen on Friday, August 1st. It will star Chris Pratt as Peter Quill. Along with Pratt, the movie will feature some well-known members of the galaxy. Nathan Fillion, Captain Malcom ‘Mal’ Reynolds from the classic show Firefly, will play a Monstrous Inmate. Stan Lee will also make his typical cameo appearance in the movie.
A final bit of news that came out this week came from the ABC studios. Fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will enjoy a second season of the series beginning on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9/8 central.
A new show titled Marvel’s Agent Carter will debut in January, 2015. The new show will focus on Agent Peggy Carter. It will be set in 1946.
As fans digest the morsels of information that have been delivered this week, it is time to get excited. While Marvel comics continue to stand the test of time, it is showing that to stay on top there needs to be some flexibility. It will be interesting to see how fans react to the new characters, movie, and television show.
