Ever want to play Russian Roulette but not use a loaded firearm? What if you’re not too happy with eating a bullet shaped chocolate piece, with one of them hiding a hot pepper? Well, then look no further than Exploding Kittens!
Exploding Kittens is essentially the game of Russian Roulette except in card form. Created by the guy who draws the cartoon “Oatmeal” with some help of Elan Lee (from Xbox) and Shane Small (from Xbox), they came up with a Russian Roulette style card game called Exploding Kittens.
Although Matthew Inman is popular for his cartoon of Oatmeal, he felt that it’d be nice to start off with something small and quiet so, he went to Kickstarter – believing that he would need 30 days to come up with the funds to make this game multiply like Tribbles. Matthew got the shock of his life when his fans rallied behind him and funded his Exploding Kittens game within twenty minutes and in less than an hour blew his goal by ten fold (that’s 1000% rather than 100%!).
What’s the object of the game? To not draw an exploding kitten, duh.
What happens when you draw an exploding kitten card? Well, as the umpires in Baseball say, “Yoooooouuuuu’re out!” Just minus the pointing to the sky bit.
How does the game work?
- Put the cards on the table (remember to shuffle well)
- Take turns drawing them (choose how to decide who will go first)
- If you draw a kitten card, you explode.
- If you explode you’re out of the game (and metaphorically dead from the explosion)
However! The exploding doesn’t end there! There are cards that may ensure that you do not explode! Players can play a defuse card which will defuse the kitten with cards such as:
- Laser Pointers
- Kitten Therapy
- Cat nip sandwiches
Or be sinister and:
- Play cards to skip your turn
- Attack other players
- Peek at the deck
- Or secretly relocate an exploding kitten card
Also people can play cat cards that are different from kittens that when played as multiples will activate special powers.
Even though this project has already reached its goal in a record amount of time, you may choose to still back them on their Kickstarter page here or even just have a peek at what this whole card game is like.
The more times the players don’t draw the exploding kittens cards, the more intense the game gets. So the real question is, do you have the guts to avoid those exploding kittens? Grab your decks and duck for cover because the fur is going to fly.
