Dark Matter: Episode 4 Review & Recap

Bravo! The fourth episode of Dark Matter was the total package. It had humor, drama, action, and suspense. The Raza crew finally made it to the space station for much needed refueling and repairs, but their efforts to remain under the radar were an epic fail on “Episode 4” of Dark Matter. Spoiler alert!

Jace versus Jace

OneandThreeIn last week’s cliffhanger, we were introduced to a Jace Corso look alike that was intent on settling a score with the crew of The Raza. As his luck would have it, this week the Jace Corso look alike finally got that opportunity thanks large in part to the crew docking at the space station for repairs and refueling. Unfortunately, that didn’t mean anything good for the Jace Corso we know as One.

After being gassed unconscious, One and Three—who by the way were cleverly paired up to keep an eye on each other by Two—found themselves face to face with the Jace Corso look alike. And though we still don’t know who the real Jace Corso is, what we do know is this: the Jace Corso we know as One has no memory of anything prior to waking up in the stasis core, while the Jace Corso look alike was apparently supposed to be on The Raza for the special mission to bring arms to the Miners, but was deterred. Thanks to the Jace Corso look alike, we also know that One is not a clone because he would have died within several days. Or is he?

Whatever the case is, the Jace look alike was the victorious one in this round of Jace versus Jace as he made off with The Raza crew’s cache of weapons. Back on The Raza, things are likely to get quite interesting since One is being blackmailed into collusion with Three after cosigning with his lie about what happened to them and the guns while they were at the space station. Unless, of course, One decides to come clean to Two and the rest of the crew.

Divide and Conquer

TwoandFive

Elsewhere while The Raza was docked, Two and Five found trouble in a casino after scoring big from counting cards. News flash: even in space casinos don’t like card counting. Once they were discovered, things quickly turned violent and Two was forced into her instinctual badass combatant mode seriously, if not fatally, injuring her adversaries. Too bad Five—the innocent one—had to bear witness to it all before they managed to flee back to the ship.

Six, on the other hand, was resolved to spending some quality time in a clinic to treat that nasty burn he acquired last week during his attempt to rescue the Android. And to be expected, that didn’t go well either. Six was forced to injure the doctor who treated him when he suspected something was awry, and he was right. The doctor had alerted the space station security that Griffin Jones aka Six—the big guy—was in his custody. The good news is Six was able to escape and head back to The Raza in time to leave the space station with the rest of the crew.

The Cliffhanger

FourThis week on Dark Matter, the cliffhanger was all about Four—the badass martial artist. Back in “Episode 1” we learned that number Four’s name is really Ryo Tetsuda, but we this week we learned even more about the mysterious crew member. As it turns out, he’s the son of an Emperor, which makes him a crowned Prince. What’s even crazier is that he’s apparently on the run for killing his father, the Emperor, and a hundred others. We really can’t be all that surprised though. After all, you have to keep in mind that this is the same Four that woke up from stasis and his only instinct was to fight and torture. You couldn’t get more obvious than that, right?

Four’s loner disposition and colorful past do however present an obvious question: how in the world the likes of him ended up on board The Raza? Why didn’t he just kill everybody and take the ship for himself? Since the show has begun to deviate from the comics, there’s no limit to where the writers can go with the storyline and that is definitely good news for us. Anything can happen on Dark Matter now. Until next week, folks.

Dark Matter airs Friday nights on Syfy at 10:00pm EST.
