A Canadian company called Hyper Hippo Games are a small independent games company that have made over 10 games in 2014 to the web, mobile, and Steam platforms; this includes their game called AdVenture Capitalist.
This game in particular is what I’m reviewing. The first time I saw it was from my husband, he found it and was playing it on his iPad. At first, it looked like a bunch of numbers quickly passing on his screen – it was clear that it was an Economical game and although I’m horrible at finance games, it still intrigued me. He told me that it had recently come out on iOS and Android but was originally on Kongregate so I had a nose around.
I downloaded it to my smartphone and it finally became clear what those numbers were and I was hooked. I even play it on my computer through Kongregate!
The goal of the game is of course to rake in serious amounts of profit. The more money you bring in, the more benefits you are able to buy – these benefits are things like x 3 profits on your different types of companies that you own as well as gaining “Angels” that help you later on as well.
At first when you own 200 of each type of company, it’s a struggle but you’ll see that you’ve gained around 100 or more Angels. What do you do then? Sell everything and start all over. Except this time, you can use your Angels to better your chances at gaining more money. Normally, I wouldn’t replay a game again; especially one with such simple mechanics but I think we all need some simplicity in our lives; especially as we get older.
The graphics of the game remind me of the Fallout series which is brilliant and as the slogan states, “AdVertising is the life blood of Capitalism”. You start off by owning one Lemonade stand. You unlock the other types by more money you bring in such as: Newspaper companies, car washes, pizza restaurants, doughnut shops, shrimp boats, hockey teams (it is a Canadian games company!), movie theaters, banks, and oil companies. There are also managers who will ensure that you don’t need to keep clicking the companies so you can earn money, they’ll do it for you.
I highly recommend this game – it’s possibly more addictive than those match three or hidden objects sort of games. It’s free to play on Kongregate, iOS, and Android. There is a choice to make in game purchases – gold to help multiply your profits if you desire but if you work hard at the game then you will reap its rewards. The only downside I see from playing the game is unlike the mobile version, the PC version doesn’t allow you to get a x 2 every four hours by simply watching a 30 second advert like it’s able in iOS and Android.
You can find the game on Kongregate as well as the Apple and Google Play store.
