Declining ratings hasn’t stopped Marvel’s Agent Carter from crafting an interesting story in its second season and after last week gave us a glimpse at the future S.H.I.E.L.D team, this week quickly returns to just our main cast of characters. Interference from other government departments have left Peggy and the rest of the SSR or at least those that can be trusted, frustrated and searching for answers as they battle corrupt politicians and powers behind their understanding.
The Spy
Peggy and Wilkes brainstorm a possible solution. Sousa doesn’t look good when Peggy meets up with him to discuss the plan to help Wilkes get the equipment he needs. Sousa’s ramblings at the bad options Peggy leaves him with ends up with Carter going to pay a visit to Dottie Underwood. Mrs. Jarvis finally realizes the danger that Jarvis gets up to thanks to Wilkes, and an undercover Peggy helps break out Dottie with the promise of deporting her once her part of the plan is done. A shock net meets her as she tries to escape from Peggy and the next thing Dottie knows she is in a lovely dress getting her hair done. Hilarity ensues when Jarvis comes into the room and quickly finds his watch missing. He pleads to Peggy for some type of weapon to protect himself using lots of hand gestures, but it is to no avail and to the amusement of Dottie.
Frost has developed a case of madness and is talking to herself when Chadwick enters. Cashing in everything he could, he has arranged a meeting for Whitney with the council, though something shady seems to be up. Whitney has second thoughts about attending the meeting due to the effect the zero matter is having on her skin. Some quick thinking from Chadwick keeps things on track and gets Whitney to agree to go to the party, though he still seems to be hiding something.
Everything appears to be going in the group’s favor when Chief Thompson waltzes in to the party. Chadwick, Frost, Masters and Thompson are talking shop with the promises that politics and brown-nosing bring. Masters tries to play to Thompson’s ego and get him to do something about Agent Carter. Jarvis runs interference and he and Thompson trade words of advice that neither are keen on hearing.
The New Council
Whitney finally meets with the council to discuss her new abilities and how she has a power to change the world. Chadwick’s betrayal is finally made known when the council tries to have her taken away. Things quickly go awry when Whitney uses her powers to show who is really in charge and eliminates several of the members council, including Chadwick. Only four members remain when Whitney takes over the council to no objections. The remaining members are terrified and quickly fall in line with everything she says. Fortunately or unfortunately for Peggy, Dottie Underwood heard everything Whitney said and managed to attain a sample from Whitney that Wilkes needs. As she leaves the room she runs into Vernon Masters and 2 other men and makes a break for it. In van on the street while Sousa tells Peggy what happened to get his engagement called off, there is a fight going on upstairs. Right before they kiss, a body lands on the van and Dottie is finally brought down by Chief Thompson. Sousa, Carter and Jarvis make a strategic retreat while Masters learns the truth about Whitney. He continues to do his best to get Thompson to go after Agent Carter by ruining her reputation if not worse, and he looks like he is considering it. Back at Stark mansion, Chief Thompson arrives to question Peggy or rather give her an ultimatum. The last thing we see is Dottie Underwood in the hands of Whitney Frost, proving that once again Thompson is going to look the fool by season’s end.
Not too much action this week’s Marvel’s Agent Carter, but Life Of The Party helped set up where the season goes from here. Peggy and Sousa grow closer as Wilkes comes closer to being tangible again and Whitney Frost has made her play taking over the council all while Thompson is caught in the middle. A fun episode that sets the pieces up on the board and leaves you wondering what will happen next.
