The Ghost and the rest of Phoenix squadron are still making way for their new base location in this week’s Star Wars Rebels. On the way, Kanan and Ezra are training up their lightsabers skills against one another to prepare for the next time they run into the Inquisitors. Kanan is trying to teach Ezra that killing an Inquisitor doesn’t mean you win, surviving does. Now strap in and watch out for asteroids (spoilers) Star Wars Rebels is going into hyperspace.
Trouble at the Base
Arriving on the planet safely, everything is quickly ruined when Rex puts a jinx on the crew when he mentions that nothing is trying to kill them. A rebel pilot quickly finds trouble when a large spider looking creature takes her out. The search is on when Sabine and Rex find themselves outnumbered against this creature, and their blasters don’t appear to work against its shell. Rex is carried off, while Sabine can only look on. She finally manages to find a weak spot (their eyes) when help arrives in the form of the rest of the crew driving the creatures off. The search for Rex is on as the whole crew, minus Chopper, go exploring the caverns of this creature, with the group splitting up. Ezra tries to use his beast control ability, but it doesn’t quite work out so well. Hera, Sabine and Zeb end up finding Rex in a room full of eggs. Rescuing Rex seems to set them off and the group makes a run for it, only to be boxed in until Kanan and Ezra show up. Reaching the ship doesn’t do them any good with the spider creature using their webbing to keep the Ghost grounded. Teamwork and a bit of luck, get the group out of this one, but it was a close call.
There is an underlying tension throughout the episode with the cloud of Kanan and Ezra leaving hanging over them. Ezra seems worries and anxious and seeks out Zeb early on to spend time with his friend. Hera obviously has a problem with the duo leaving, and it takes Sabine to point it out to Kanan. Kanan and Hera talk, but at the same time they don’t. Hera wants to stick together for Kanan’s mission, but he doesn’t even seem to acknowledge it as all he wants to do is keep her safe. A tender moment between them gives you a Tatooine moment. Not a bad episode, but the show spends a bit too much time fighting these creatures instead of focusing on Kanan and Ezra leaving. The tension is there, but it should have had a stronger focus.
