This week, a leaked batch of advertising images have been leaked, pointing towards a partnership with Bungie and Red Bull. These images reveal upcoming packing for 4 packs of Red Bull energy drink. Apparently, those who purchase the new 4 pack, will find a redeemable code within, granting them access to a new quest. The shocking part of this story came with the actual branding on said packaging. Emblazoned across the blue box is a name we have heard frequently as of late, The Taken King.
The Taken King is rumoured to be the name of Destiny’s next DLC expansion. This is based on a trademark filed by Bungie in April under the same name. Many have speculated that due to it’s Hive-like symbol, that players can expect to face off against the Hive horde once again. With packaging already being designed, one cannot help but question how soon this DLC will be hitting consoles. With E3 rapidly approaching, there is no doubt we will hear from Activision about The Taken King in June.
Also advertised on the new Red Bull packaging is a contest to win play time with popular MLG player, Flamesword. Perhaps with this move, Bungie is looking to step onto the Major League scene as they had with the overwhelmingly popular Halo series. As of now, the only confirmed details seem to be the DLC’s name, and a clue pointing towards it being a full expansion, but the mention of a quest.
Will we be hunting Crota’s father, the Hive King? It seems we must wait and find out.
