Today, a bevy new details, and even a trailer for the new Battlefront have been revealed at Star Wars Celebration. The latest iteration of the beloved series, is reported to take place during the original trilogy. Players will fight through the iconic battles of episodes 4, 5 and 6.
A few other potentially disappointing bits of information have to light, Battlefront will focus on large scale planetary battles. Players will be able to fly X and Y wing fighters, TIE fighters, and even the Millennium Falcon from within the atmosphere. Space battles will not be present in the upcoming Dice title.
Rather than taking to the stars, players will battle across planets such as Hoth, Tatooine, and even the forest moon of Endor. Sollust, a volcanic planet similar to Mustafar, depicted in Episode 3, will also be visited in game. These frenzied large scale battles will feature up to 40 players at a time, taking the role of Rebel and Imperial soldiers and a few others. Players will be able to storm the field as quite a few main characters of the Star Wars universe such as Boba Fett, or even Darth Vader himself. Jet packs, speeder bikes, and imperial walkers also took part in the heated battle during the trailer, and will all be useable in game.
Another choice that may cause a stir in the gaming community is Dices choice to eliminate the campaign experience. Although the original Battlefront lacked a this mode, Battlefront 2 introduced a narrative campaign. If you are not a fan of competitive online multiplayer however don’t fret, all missions in game will be playable solo, online, or with local co-op.
Before the games release DLC is already being announced, but this is different than the usual money grab by publishers. This DLC, slated for a month after the games release, will be free for all players and is called the Battle of Jakku. Star wars fans were introduced to this Tatooine-esque desert planet in the latest teaser trailer of the upcoming Star Wars film, The Force Awakens. It will no doubt shine some light on the events coming in episode 7, as players confront imperial holdouts hiding in the outer rim.
Battlefront is scheduled for release on November 17, 2015 in North America and November 20th in the UK, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
